Tom Lawrence is a composer, lecturer and sound recordist, and has worked with the BBC and the History Channel creating films and documentaries. In 2008 he won the Adele Mellen Prize for ‘Outstanding Work’ and has worked with many different soundscapes and produced work of different compositional approaches such as radio broadcasts and installations. Dr. Lawrence lectures in multimedia sound and music at Dublin City University (DCU), where he was nominated for a President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2010. The work which is of interest to acoustic ecology is that of the Water Beetles of Pollardstown Fen in Ireland, as it is one of the last remaining places where certain species exist in Western Europe. This work can be likened to that of Chris Watson’s, as Dr. Lawrence was able to collect some fascinating underwater soundscapes.
